Martin Jackson invited me to join the coaching staff last summer. Martin and I have known each other for too many years touring Canada with the Sheffield Steelers in 1985 and together as part of the management team at the inaugural U19 tournament in Australia on 1988. After a brief chat with Martin and with the encouragement of my wife, Maxine, I decided it would be honour to coach Wales at a world championship.
I first started playing in 1967 at William Hulmes Grammar School so there has been a lot of lacrosse played and coached since then. I have played in two world championships, coached at one world championship and supported my son, Chris, at another world championship.
As a Level 3 Coach I have been involved over the last fifteen years or so in developing the junior lacrosse programme at Brooklands Hulmeians Lacrosse Club. Jack Murray was one of the first players to be involved in the programme and I am delighted to see him now playing international lacrosse for Wales.
I have made many friendships through lacrosse and look forward to renewing some of them in Denver.
